French Left-Wing Party LFI Forced to Evacuate HQ After Bomb Threat
LFI's national coordinator, Manuel Bompard, broke the news on X, the US-owned social media platform, confirming the emergency measure. "The national headquarters of La France insoumise has just been evacuated following a bomb threat. Police services are on site," he announced, adding that all personnel and activists had been accounted for and were unharmed.
The evacuation comes amid a rapidly deteriorating security climate for the party, whose offices across the country have faced a string of vandalism incidents in recent days. The backlash stems from accusations that LFI bears a "moral responsibility" in the death of Quentin Deranque, a 23-year-old nationalist activist who died Saturday after sustaining severe injuries during violent clashes between far-left and far-right groups in Lyon.
The fatal confrontation has since triggered a criminal investigation, with authorities moving swiftly — 11 individuals have now been arrested on charges of "intentional homicide" in connection with the case.
The bomb threat marks a stark escalation in the fallout from Deranque's death, raising urgent questions about political violence and security in France as authorities work to contain further unrest.
